We Reviewed 50 Chennai Business Websites. Here Is What Almost All of Them Got Wrong.

Over the past year, our team at Tectra Technologies reviewed more than 50 websites belonging to businesses across Chennai — hospitals, schools, retail stores, manufacturers, law firms, restaurants. We were looking for the most common reasons a website fails to generate enquiries. What we found was not surprising. It was consistent.

The same problems showed up across industries, across budgets, and across businesses that had spent anywhere from ₹30,000 to ₹5,00,000 on their websites. Here is what we found.

Problem 1: The website was built for the business owner, not the customer

Most websites open with a description of the company — who they are, how long they have been operating, what awards they have won. The visitor, however, arrives with a single question: can this business solve my problem? The moment a website fails to answer that question in the first five seconds, most visitors leave. Your homepage is not your company’s biography. It is a first conversation with a stranger who does not yet trust you.

Problem 2: There is no clear next step

We counted the number of websites where a visitor landing on the homepage could not find a phone number, WhatsApp button, or enquiry form within ten seconds. It was more than 60%. If a customer is ready to contact you and cannot find how, they will not search your website for the answer. They will go to the next result.

Problem 3: The mobile experience was an afterthought

Over 70% of web traffic in India arrives on a mobile device. Yet most of the websites we reviewed were clearly designed on a desktop and then ‘made responsive’ as a checkbox item. Text was too small. Buttons were too close together. Forms did not work properly. The experience of using these websites on a phone was frustrating. Frustrated visitors do not enquire.

Problem 4: There was no local SEO signal

Businesses selling to Chennai customers were not ranking for Chennai searches because their websites never mentioned the city — not in the page titles, not in the meta descriptions, not in the content. A business in Anna Nagar competing for local clients needs to tell Google it is in Anna Nagar. Repeatedly and credibly.

Problem 5: The website was slow

The average load time across the websites we reviewed was 6.2 seconds on mobile. Google recommends under three. Under two is where you stop losing customers to impatience. The cause in almost every case was uncompressed images and poor hosting. Both are fixable in a matter of days.

Does your website have any of these five problems? We will audit it for free and send you a specific report. Email sales@tectratechnologies.com with your website URL.
